The danger of heart disease could be reduced by 50% for the obese people by weight loss surgery according to recent study. Extreme obesity also known as morbid obesity is the one where obese person has a BMI of 40 or higher. Extreme obesity is attached with number of life threatening diseases which includes but is not limited to type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure and a series of other diseases.
According to Nicolas V. Christou, MD, PhD, of McGill University Health Center in Montreal, "No other treatment has been shown to have this much impact on preventing or reducing heart disease in patients with morbid obesity". There might be certain amount of risk involved with these surgeries but the gain out of it could outweigh the risks by a large amount for obese people who not only suffer physically but mentally as well.
The study was announced at annual meeting of the American Society for Bariatric Surgery in San Francisco.
